In Flowing we place our attention
on the in-breath and follow our feet, asking our body to follow our own fluidity.
The tempo steps up into Staccato.
We explore angles and sharp percussive moves, connecting the outbreath to the thrust of the body.
In Chaos we feel the bass beat
in our feet, we allow the body to shake and invite ourselves to let go (and sweat!).
In Lyrical, we stay in the beat
of chaos, but drop the effort. In effect we let go of letting go.
As Stillness arrives we
slow down, move in slow motion and gather our energy inwards.
This sequence can happen once or several times
in a class. It is also known as a wave, as it follows a wave of energy.
On one level this practice is simply great
exercise. Besides keeping us fit, we may notice, over time, that our range of movement is shifting and expanding - maybe
we are moving in ways that we never thought were "us". Every time we do this we get the chance to unfreeze some of the blocks
that have kept us firmly in our place and we bring more of ourselves into circulation. As Gabrielle Roth, the founder of
this work says "Put your body into motion and the psyche will heal itself".
Who doesn't want to free up more energy, allow
their creativity to come through, even get a few glimpses of the unique self that is dying to come out from the wings?
