How often have you been to dull theatre?
We all know when actors are not aligned or alive on
stage because bodies can not lie. Someone who is present and embodied will respond dynamically to any given situation. In
our daily life we often think one thing, feel another, and do something else. As actors we need to bring these parts into
alignment so that we can consciously create characters that may be trizophrenic. e.g T.S Eliot's character who famously lived
3 steps ahead of his body.
Through the disciplines of 5 rhythms practice, breath work, archetypes, and structured physical improvisations
this workshop will address:
- What is presence and how can I become an actor who
embodies this? ("What do I do with my hands" can be consigned to the bin)
- The concept that acting is "doing" by being invited
to uncover the effortless place of "doing" grounded in "being"
- How to increase your range and find characters waiting
in the wings
-How to step out of your habitual self and the identification
with a narrow range of characters, tempos and rhythms in order tap in to the rich resources that are available to every performer.
